John 14:2-3
I am going there to prepare a place for you...I will come back and take you to be with Me...

Have you ever had a moment when you learned something profound through something so simple that you were almost afraid to share it with others? I did last week. It all started as I was leaving the house like I do on every Thursday afternoon. Parker, Will and Sydney ran up to me and hugged me goodbye and I said, "Quick! Run to wave goodbye to Daddy!"

The routine in our house is that we open the front door and wave goodbye. So usually the last thing I see as I pull away is one or all of my chuldren at the front door waving goodbye to me. But on this day, as I backed out of the driveway and looked to the door, it was closed.I thought that was odd, especially since I had just told them to get in position for the big send-off. But as I looked down from the door, I saw three heads and then three hands waving frantically. All of my children were waving good-bye to me from Sydney's room which is located at the end of our house. So what, right?

The simple part of this is that they were waving good-bye. But what struck me was where they were waving good-bye. They had gone to the last window of the house that I would pass as I rounded the corner to leave our lot. They had gotten as close to me as they could to wave good-bye. And that's when the profoundness of it hit me. That is what the altar is for us as Christians.

When we make an altar before God, we are in essance doing what my children did. We are getting as close as possible to our Savior. He left but He promised that He'll come back. And while I'm waiting, I want to stand as close to Him as I can, and for me, and many of you, that happens when I make an altar- a special place specifically designed for meeting with God- and seek Him. Oh, that He might find in me a child who is longing to be as close to Him as I can possibly be.

Quick! Run to the altar and wave to Daddy!"
