Psalm 37:23-24
The Lord delights in the way of the man whose steps He has made firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.

Today, Parker and Will took a big step. Yep, right out of the ol' minivan and into their Kindergarten classroom. They each sat down at the desk with their name on it and smiled one last time for one more picture and then they waved goodbye. Kicked us right out of there! And as sad as it seemed, it was also incredibly exciting! Our sons are growing up (which is a lot better than growing down, wouldn't you agree??) and now they get to start out on a journey that will prove to them that God is true and faithful.

A long time ago I saw Oprah interview Michael Jackson and she asked him one question that I've never forgotten. "Michael," she said, "you're turning 30 years old. What do you know for sure?" WOW! What a question? With all that is going on in your life, what do you not have to wonder about? What issues have you put to rest? What are you secure and confident about? What have you placed in the vault? What do you know for sure?

Well, I know for sure that as a parent I make mistakes. I get tired and selfish. I try to be the example to my children of "Jesus with skin on" but many times fail. But I also know that the journey they started this morning is one that they will walk with another Father. And His hand is stronger than mine, His heart is larger than mine and His plan for their lives is far superior to mine. And He can be trusted more than I. For me, there's a lot of peace in that. It is one of the things that I know for sure.

I know that every step out of the minivan is a step into the strong hands of my Father...

...and their Father, too.
