Luke
1:55
He has ... [remembered] to be merciful to Abraham and his decendants
forever...
If you're anything like me (and probably the rest
of humanity), you hate waiting in lines. I can't stand it. In
fact, my least favorite places to go are amusement parks because
they are anything but amusing. It is one agonizing line after
another for mere seconds of amusement. Holiday shopping is no
different. It is so hard to stay festive when you're looking at
the back of the same person's head for 30 minutes
while you wait to pay for a pack of gum! But there is one thing
that's worse than waiting in line: waiting in the wrong line!
I remember in college standing in long lines to
register for classes and then to purchase books. In fact, there
was one time that I stood in line only to be told that I had indeed
been foolishly waiting in the wrong long line and that I needed
to go get in the back of the right long line. ARGGGGHHHHHH! There
is nothing worse than that, and the last thing I want to do in
this life is be in the wrong line. Mary praised God for being
One who is always merciful and faithful to help those who were
in the right line, and if we are spiritual descendants of Abraham,
then we're in that line. We have waited with others who also have
placed their faith in Christ and who are no longer relying on
good works to get them to heaven and this verse assures us that
our wait is not in vain! He will remember to be merciful to the
people who are in this line.
But wait! There's more! (Sorry, that was a bit over
the top...) It's possible that you're reading this and you're
starting to feel like I did that day in college. You're realizing
that you, too, have been standing too long in the wrong line.
Your line is filled with people who are trying to live a good
life, who are trying to do the right thing and who are hoping
that God will overlook the bad stuff because of all the good.
It's not too late to switch lines. Go on. Do it.
After all, there's nothing worse than being in the
wrong line.
Especially when eternity's at stake.
