Proverbs
26:11
As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.
We've had a rough week in the Jenkins' household.
As far as sick children go, we're a perfect 3 for 3! Sinus infections
have hit us with full force and - as gross as it may be - we've
seen a good bit of vomit. And as I've stood by the toilet watching
stuff fly, I've thought, "I don't want to be any closer to
that stuff than I have to be." And
who would? Who on earth wants to be like a dog? Why would any
of us return to vomit?
Of course, we wouldn't. But the writer of this proverb
knows that. The point he's making is thatw e're like that if we
continue to do the same old things. A wise man with the last name
of Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same things over
and over again and expecting different results. But how many of
us can relate to that statement? How many of us crave to have
a deeper walk with Christ but we continue to live out the same
habits that have kept us mired in mediocrity? Are we insane or
what? And, if the truth were told, are we really any better than
a dog that vomits and then goes back to it?
Maybe this is a good time in your life to begin
again. Set a spiritual goal and then change the habits in your
life so that you can meet them. Put down the remote once or twice
a day and do something different that will help you reach that
goal. Keep it up for a month and you'll find that you've created
new habits, but these habits will give you different, better results.
So, please, slowly step away from the vomit...
