Psalm 39:5
Each man's life is but a breath.

I spent some time this past Saturday watching young men become millionaires during the 2005 Draft of the National Football League. Those kind of things always fascinate me and remind me of my days in Junior High when I would stand with other kids and pray that I would be picked closer to first than last. The obvious difference, of course, is the size of our arms and the amount of money at stake (being picker first for Greek dodgeball isn't worth nearly as much as being picked first in the NFL draft!). But as I thought about the draft, I realized a deep spiritual truth...

We're all on the clock. It was a phrase repeated 32 times on Saturday. The NFL commissioner would walk to the podium, announce the current pick and then say that the next team is "on the clock." Each team then had 15 minutes to make their first-round selection before the next team would be "on the clock." And I thought of Deut. 30:15 where the people are told that life and death has been set before them and that they need to choose life. Do you get it? We're all on the clock. God has set before us life and death and, by His grace, has given us an appointed amount of time to make a choice. I don't know what your clock still has on it- heck, I don't even know what mine has left- but I do know that at some point our clock's will run out. Our lives are but a breath and we have got to choose.

Time is ticking. The end will come. The only question remaining is what will you choose?

Choose wisely. You're on the clock.
