Isaiah 43:19
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
We serve a God who makes bold moves. He doesn't sit by and watch the status quo and think to Himself, "Now, that's more like it!" He is always doing something new. It has always amazed me that the God of the church that never likes change is the One who is always doing new things. It seems that we'd get on the same page with Him and not be so hesitant, and, if we were more child-like in our faith, we would. That's what I learned recently while paying for my meal at Cici's.
Parker, Will and I had gone there for a guy's night out while Wendy and Sydney were down visitng her parents. Cici's is a great place for cheap pizza and games AND they take care of the dishes. Plusses all around if you ask me. Anyway, as I was paying for our meal, Parker looked up at the cashier and said, "My dad's not a youth pastor anymore." She looked a little puzzled - probably because she doesn't know us - but smiled politely. Parker wasn't finished. "He's traveling around to churches and talking to people about Jesus." At this point things are getting a little sticky. She's uncomfortable, I'm uncomfortable and my sons are just hitting their stride! Will wrapped it all up by proudly announcing, "Hey, Dad! You could preach here!!"
See, children are excited when their parents make bold moves. They actually want to tell people about the "new thing" that is now springing up. And it made me realize that when we get closer to God - when we see the exciting, new things that He is doing - we should proudly proclaim to the world, the church, the neighbor's dog - heck, anyone who will listen - that our Dad is doing exciting things!
Are you proudly telling those around you about the next great thing God is doing in your life? It's a good thing to tell about water in a desert and new things in the status quo. Who knows? You may even find yourself telling people over your next meal at Cici's.
Just make sure you don't talk with your mouth full. |
