Acts 4:13b
...they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Sometimes things are just obvious. Like why Gameboys are called Gameboys. According to my son, Parker, it's because, "well, you know, they have games and, pretty much, boys play them." Right. Now why didn't I think of that?
Isn't it great the simple way that children think? They just sum things up they way they probably are (or at least should be). In fact, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we all found out that one day in an executive meeting at the Nintendo Corporation some big-wig said, "Let's call them Gameboys since boys will be using them to play games." Names mean things and the sooner we accept that fact, the sooner we can all start living up to our name...Christian.
The word is simple and it's meaning is, too. "Christ-like." It's easy to say and a lot easier to remember than, say, "Followers of the Great Heavenly Triune." In fact, my guess is that we got that label because the early followers of Jesus were so much like Him. The question, of course, is are we still that much like Him?
I can't answer that for you - it's all I can do to have some kind of acceptable answer for myself. But I can say that it is my aim to live a life worthy of that name. And hopefully people will look at my life and say, "Well, yeah, he's a Christian because, well, he's like Christ."
Right. Now let's live like that. |
