Ephesians 5:8
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light...

I've always wanted to switch. I've always known that somehow it was necessary, but for so long I put it off because I was scared. Scared of change, of how my life might look if I did it, of the friends that I might lose if I actually made the switch. Watch the switch commercials! But, a hard drive failure, a couple of 48-hour marathon calls to Dell (ok, so it seemed that long!) and the lure of those crazy TV commercials finally pushed me over the edge and I did it. To the sound of the Hallelujah Chorus and glorious light that expanded as the box was opened, I finally went from darkness to light, from slave to freeman, from, well, PC to Mac. And along the way I found that it really is somewhat similar to salvation, only not the way you'd think. Let me explain...

I really had put this decision off for way too long. Everytime things didn't run smoothly on my PC, I knew that I needed to make a change. But it always seemed like it would be too inconvenient, that it would cost me way too much to replace software and that it was, well, easier to stay with what I knew. And that, my friend, is a lot like how most people feel before coming to Christ. They know their life isn't working and that they need to make a change, but they're just a bit too unsure. An uncomfortable life can get comfortable after while and change can freak us out. But...

Once I made the switch I wondered what took so long. Literally, from the moment I turned on the iMac I knew I'd made the right decision. It was, well, like when I finally decided to turn my life over to Christ. It was easy to switch. I mean, like the verse says, we went from darkness to light. And what i have found is that switching is easy, but living with the switch is, well, not.

There are changes to be made. Some software is no longer usable. There's a new language to learn, a new way to operate, new commands to memorize. Is the new Mac easier than the old PC? Absolutely! Is my life simpler now that I've switched? Absolutely not (which is why the last Evotion came 2 months ago!!). That's what Paul meant when he ended our verse with "live as children of light." It's not enough to just switch! Life is now to be lived differently because we've switched.

There are friends who may no longer be compatible with your new operating system. Thought processes are being rewritten, new commands are being memorized. And at times you may (like I have) wish you could go back to what was comfortable. But never forget that what was comfortable was also broken and no longer working (if it ever really did anyway!).

Never made the switch? I'd say you need to go for it.

And if you want to get a Mac along the way, that wouldn't be all that bad, either.
