Acts 2:44
All the believers were together and had everything in common.

You know, we share a lot of stuff, don't we? Files, emails, viruses, colds, runny noses, well, you get the idea. In fact, I love to share so much that I've got a wireless router in our house that allows each of my computers to share the same printer and even share documents. My guess is that you go to school or work somewhere that has the same capabilities. But for all the things we share, am I the only one that feels like our world is even more disconnected and that somehow our "wireless networks" aren't functioning the way they were designed to? I think it's because we've forgotten to share the most common thing we all have - life.

Evotion imageA quick glance at our verse will make most of us nod our heads in agreement. We'll even think about how we just lived that verse out this past Sunday at church. There we were, surrounded by fellow believers, singing hymns or choruses, giving a dollar to God. But many of us walked out of those services and wondered why we felt like something was still missing. The answer? Most of us only did one of the things mentioned in the verse. Here's what I mean...

We've all gotten pretty good at the first part of the verse: being together. We work together, eat together, go on trips together, play ball together. We can all go pretty much anywhere in the world and still feel together with a quick text message of an IM to a friend states, countries or continents apart. But that's not a shared life. That's just a connected life. Technology does a good job connecting us - getting us together - but it can never help us share life. That requires more than an IP address or a wireless access card for your laptop.

The New Testament church added to its numbers daily because they were not just near each other, but also invloved with each other. They had everything in common. They shared deep thoughts, concerns, truths, and pains together. They prayed together, ate together, talked about more than just the weather together. They shared life. It was vulnerable, uncomfortable, and highly rewarding. It was, most likely, everything that many of us are missing nowadays.

Hey, we've got the whole "all the believers were together and said things were fine" part down, don't we? So let's try something radical. Let's try sharing our lives with one another, too. Who knows? Perhaps God will again add daily to the number of believers.

Wow, wouldn't that be something?
